Curtis
J. Cook, President of the Ponderosa Volunteer Fire Association and
Emergency Services District #28, passed away February 16,
2004.Curt
was a true and dedicated visionary and made significant contributions to
the success of this fire department, Harris County leadership, and
critical Texas Legislative efforts impacting our community.
After serving as a
volunteer fire fighter in his hometown in Oregon in his younger years,
Curt joined Shell Oil Company in Los Angeles. When the company transferred
him to Houston in 1974, he immediately got involved with Spring VFD,
and then became one of the original founders of Ponderosa VFD. He was
involved with the department from the beginning, and served as President
of Harris County Emergency Services District #28 until his death. Curt
served as President of the Ponderosa system since 1976, and also served as
the President of the Harris County Association of Fire and EMS Districts.
Our community mourns
the loss of this unique, passionate and dedicated man. His accomplishments
are too numerous to mention...his friends and colleagues all have special
memories of his valuable service, his wicked sense of humor, and his
perseverance in the face of many health obstacles.
He will truly be
missed.
