The PVFD is a primarily volunteer fire department.  We feel that we are an elite organization with goals, policies, performance and a philosophy, which is a “cut” above other volunteer fire departments.  You must evaluate your commitment to this organization as being one of dedication and performance before acceptance to our organization.

Are you joining for the “fun” of it?  Do you just need “something to do”?  Are you joining just to be around your friends?  Is this just a “whim”?  IF you answered yes to any of these, you should give more thought prior to filling out the application.

This department has rules, regulations, policies and procedures, which you MUST follow.  This is not a social club.  When the alarm rings, you must be thoroughly committed to performing the tasks assigned and required – our citizens deserve nothing less.  You cannot perform properly if you have not attended the training sessions.  Firefighting is not a game.  It requires your total dedication to save lives and protect against the loss of property.

To be a member you MUST: follow the rules; attend meetings and training sessions; attend special training sessions and seminars; be available when you are in district; participate in clean-ups; work on special maintenance projects; and, most importantly, respond to all emergency calls you are called to.

You will need to attend our recruit class at no cost to you, and you will go through a probationary period.  When you are called for a response, you are there to observe.  If you complete probation satisfactorily, you are still considered a candidate.  In other words, no firefighting (structures) until you have had specialized training.

We wish for you to join the PVFD, but we require your dedication.  If you can do all of the above, welcome!  If you feel you cannot, no problem, don’t submit the application.  We guarantee that you will feel special for helping your neighbors.  We will provide training, motivation, protective gear and insurance.  You provide your personal commitment to excellence.
